The incident occurred on Monday while the troops were conducting a routine patrol along the axis.

In a statement, the acting spokesperson for the operation, Mohammed Goni, said the troops encountered the terrorists and responded, forcing them to withdraw from the area.

He said reinforcements were subsequently deployed to clear the ambush site and conduct further operations in the surrounding area.

According to Goni, the troops discovered and dismantled several makeshift camps believed to have been used as temporary staging and hideout locations by the terrorists.

Items recovered from the area included a motorcycle, bicycles, a magazine, ammunition and ocket-propelled grenades (RPGs).

Goni said no military personnel were killed or injured during the encounter, although some military vehicles were damaged.

He added that the troops remained operational and successfully completed the mission.
