The soldiers also recovered 520 livestock in Sokoto State.

The military disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Captain Tamuno Sinivie.

According to the statement, troops of Sector 2 came under a coordinated ambush by terrorists positioned on both sides of the Anka–Guruzu Road on October 28, 2026, while conducting a fighting patrol following reports of terrorist activities in the area.

The troops reportedly responded with superior firepower, inflicting heavy casualties on the attackers, who fled in disarray.

The statement added that the troops subsequently secured the road and restored freedom of movement for commuters.

However, one soldier sustained a gunshot injury during the encounter and was evacuated for medical attention. He is said to be in stable condition.

In a separate operation in Sokoto State, the troops foiled an attempt by suspected terrorists to rustle livestock and abduct herders at Takasaba Village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area.

The military said the troops acted on credible intelligence and swiftly engaged the attackers, forcing them to flee and abandon 520 livestock and two abducted herders.

The rescued victims are aged 50 and 14.

They were subsequently handed over to the Sabon Birni Local Government authorities.

The Theatre Commander of Operation Fansan Yamma, Major General W. B. Idris, commended the troops for their courage and operational effectiveness, urging them to sustain the offensive against terrorist groups.

He also reassured residents of the military’s commitment to restoring peace and security across the North-West, while calling on members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
