Troops dislodge terrorists, recover machine gun, motorcycles in Sokoto
Troops of the Nigerian Army’s Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion 7, Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, have dislodged terrorist elements and recovered a PKT machine gun, rifles, ammunition and motorcycles during offensive operations in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
According to a post on X by counter-terrorism expert, Zagazola Makama, the operation was conducted as part of sustained efforts by the troops to clear terrorist enclaves and deny armed groups freedom of movement in the North-West.
Makama stated that the troops advanced through identified terrorist threat areas, including Manu, Alkasim and Kandam villages, as well as the Magarya forest axis.
According to him, upon making contact with the terrorists in the Magarya forest enclave, the troops engaged them with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon their positions and flee deeper into the forest.
He revealed that during follow-up operations and a thorough search of the area, the troops recovered a PKT machine gun, AK-47 rifles, a large quantity of 7.62 x 54mm belted ammunition, motorcycles and assorted logistical and miscellaneous items.
The security expert further noted that the recovered weapons and mobility assets are believed to have been used by the terrorists to sustain their operations within the area.
“The troops have continued to maintain a strong operational posture and dominate the general area to prevent the terrorists from regrouping and to ensure the security of surrounding communities.
“The operation is part of the ongoing offensive efforts under Operation Fansan Yamma to dismantle terrorist enclaves and restore peace and stability across the North-West,” he said.
