Troops discover, detonate IED planted along Borno highway
Troops of the Nigerian Army have averted a potential attack after discovering and detonating an improvised explosive device, IED, planted along the Damboa-Bulabulin-Maiduguri Road in Borno State.
The operation was carried out by troops of 25 Brigade, Sector 2, in collaboration with local vigilantes, during a route-dominance patrol and escort of civilian vehicles.
This was disclosed in a post on X by Zagazola Makama, a counterinsurgency and security expert in the Lake Chad region.
Security sources said the explosive device was discovered at about 1:30 pm on November 2, 2026, approximately five kilometres before the Kumala checkpoint.
Following the discovery, an Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was deployed to the location and successfully detonated the device.
The troops subsequently proceeded to the Kumala checkpoint and continued their security operations.
No casualty was recorded during the operation.
The discovery and clearance of the IED form part of ongoing military efforts to secure major roads, protect civilian commuters and prevent attacks by suspected terrorists in Borno State.
