Troops arrest two suspected ISWAP members in Adamawa

Troops attached to Operation Hadin Kai have apprehended two individuals suspected to be members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The arrest was revealed in a post shared on X on Monday by security analyst, Zagazola Makama.

According to the post, the suspects were picked up at about 9:05 a.m. on Monday in Garkida after receiving actionable intelligence on their movements.

The two suspects were identified as 30-year-old Mallam Babangida Abubakar and 18-year-old Abdullahi Yusuf.

Security sources said that during initial questioning, the suspects allegedly admitted involvement in a number of terrorist operations within the North-East region.

One of them, Babangida Abubakar, was said to have confessed to participating in the kidnapping of school children in Mussa, as well as an attack on Leho Village in Askira Local Government Area of Borno State.

The second suspect, Abdullahi Yusuf, reportedly acknowledged taking part in an attack on Tellabala Village in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

A security source stated that the suspects were arrested based on credible intelligence and are currently helping investigators with useful information relevant to ongoing operations.

“They were arrested following credible intelligence and are currently cooperating with investigators,” the source said.

The suspects are presently being held by the 247 Reconnaissance Battalion, while further investigations continue into their alleged activities in the region.
