Tragedy as 15-year-old boy drowns in Dutse pond

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Jigawa State Command, has confirmed the death of a 15-year-old boy, Isah Muhammad, who drowned in a pond popularly known as Sterling Pond along Disina Road in Dutse Local Government Area.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASC Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud, confirmed the incident in a statement issued to newsmen.

He said, the command received a distress call about the incident and immediately deployed personnel from the Takur Site Division to the scene.

‎The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday at about 4:30 p.m. after the victim, a resident of Bokoto Quarters in Dutse, was reportedly swimming in the pond.

‎According to the statement, the officers evacuated the victim to the General Hospital, Dutse, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead.

‎The NSCDC said the body was subsequently released to the deceased’s family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
‎
‎The State Commandant of the NSCDC, Muhammad Kabiru Ingawa, expressed condolences to the family over the loss of the teenager.
‎
‎He prayed for Allah to grant the deceased eternal rest and give his family the strength to bear the loss.
