Tracking The Opposition
The ADC faces a major threat to its nominations, while a PDP leadership appeal has failed and Abia PDP leaders have publicly backed Tinubu. These developments affect ballot access, party authority and campaign organisation.
ADC: Leadership Judgment Puts Nominations At Risk
On 5 November, the Federal High Court in Abuja invalidated the David Mark-led leadership and its decisions, including Atiku Abubakar’s presidential nomination and other candidate nominations.
The ADC rejects the judgment and says it will appeal. Its campaign council announced preparations to seek interim relief, but no filed appeal, stay application, or order suspending this judgment was independently verified this morning.
Assessment: The immediate priority is securing legal certainty for the ticket and state candidates. The party’s allegations of APC interference remain unsubstantiated in the reporting reviewed.
PDP: Turaki Faction Suffers Another Recognition Setback
The Court of Appeal on November 4 upheld dismissal of the Wabara-led Board of Trustees’ suit seeking INEC recognition for the Turaki-led interim committee. Channels reports that the underlying decision concerned the plaintiffs’ legal standing; the appellate court also described the appeal as academic and an abuse of process. The faction announced plans to approach the Supreme Court.
Assessment: its claim to direct the PDP remains constrained. This ruling should not be presented as automatically invalidating every PDP nomination.
Abia: PDP Support For Tinubu Becomes An Explicit Campaign Commitment
At the APC presidential campaign council inauguration on 5 November, Abraham Amah, identified in reporting as PDP state chairman and deputy governorship candidate, announced support for Tinubu’s re-election. He was assigned an interparty mobilisation role.
Assessment: This creates competing loyalties within the PDP’s state organisation and could weaken its presidential mobilisation. It establishes an endorsement and campaign role, not a formal defection or proof that supporters will follow.
NDC: Obi Challenges The Uncertainty Surrounding Rivals
In a 5 November statement, Peter Obi expressed concern that the ADC judgment could restrict electoral choice and destabilise opposition preparations. His intervention does not establish a joint ticket or withdrawal agreement.
No comparably substantive fresh Labour Party or NNPP development was verified. No new order resolving the Ogun, Kano or Niger nomination disputes was established.
What to watch: the ADC’s actual court filings and any interim orders; INEC’s response to the judgment; the Turaki faction’s Supreme Court filing; and whether Abia PDP candidates clarify which presidential campaign their structures will support.
