Track: Jackson, King place at track state finals

The IHSAA held the track and field state finals Friday and Saturday at North Central High School in Indianapolis.

Friday, the girls hit the track, and Carmel won the team title with 49.5 points. Bloomington South was second with 35 followed by Whiteland 33, Ft. Wayne Concordia 29 and Hamilton Southeastern 28 to round out the top five.

Batesville’s Ella King reached the podium in the shot put. King, a junior, placed fourth in the state with a distance of 44-0.

Batesville’s 4×800 team of Bayleigh Demaree, Jayla Bedel, Caitlin Raver and Ava Wade finished with a time of 9:46.04.

North Decatur junior Miley Scudder ran a 12.83 in the 100.

Saturday held the boys’ state finals. Bloomington North won the team title with 39 points. Franklin Central was second with 36 followed by Avon 33, Brownsburg 27 and Chesterton 26 to round out the top five.

Greensburg freshman Jai Jackson earned a podium spot with a sixth-place finish in the shot put with a distance of 58-11.5.

North Decatur senior Mason Kunz cleared the bar at 6-2 in the high jump.
