Tottenham Hotspur could eye summer deals for Karl Darlow and Sam Johnstone

Tottenham Hotspur are in the market for a new goalkeeper and might compete with Manchester United for Leeds United star Karl Darlow and his Wolverhampton Wanderers counterpart Sam Johnstone, according to The Athletic.

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium club are expected to let Guglielmo Vicario leave this summer, and while Antonin Kinsky has impressed in his absence, Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi wants a new goalie. Both Darlow and Johnstone would count towards the club’s homegrown quota, with the Leeds United number 1 set to become a free agent at the end of this month.

The 35-year-old Wales international made 22 Premier League appearances during the 2025-26 campaign and could be a perfect option for Tottenham. Darlow forced his way into the first-team plans of Leeds manager Daniel Farke and could fancy his chances of becoming Spurs’ first-choice. However, it remains to be seen whether the North London club will make a concrete move for the Whites star. Leeds want to keep Darlow and are expected to offer him a new deal, but moving elsewhere could appeal to him and he will not be short of suitors in the coming weeks and months.

Johnstone will look to continue his career in the Premier League following relegation with Wolverhampton Wanderers. The 33-year-old last played for England in 2023 and he could still be harbouring the thoughts of playing for the Three Lions again. Johnstone needs to remain in the Premier League for that to happen and a move to Tottenham could be an option. He has two years left on his Wolves contract but should be available for a decent fee should he look to move on. The former West Bromwich Albion star has huge experience in the Premier League, which Spurs could do with as they look to challenge for a top-six finish next season.
