Titans' Tyjae Spears looking for consistency heading into the season

· · 1 min read

On Thursday, Tennessee Titans head coach Robert Saleh made it clear that running backs Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears are clearly the team’s bell cows heading into 2026, and that the staff has faith in their production.

This revelation does throw some water on speculation from those outside the organization who had already written off the tandem. Pollard has been solid in his two seasons with the Titans and extremely consistent, but he lacks the splash many look for. Spears flashed as a rookie, but he has battled injuries over his time in Nashville, and that caused many to jump off the bandwagon.

After practice, Spears met with the media and outlined what he is focused on heading into the season.

“Consistency overrules everything. If I’m consistently up and down, that’s the results I will get.” Spears said. “So, I’m trying to consistently improve. Some days, it won’t be that, but if I stay consistent, inside the person that I am, and in the player that I am, everything is going to be good.”

When healthy, Spears has been productive and, in many ways, looked poised to take a significant step forward last offseason. But a preseason injury cost him some time, and he never truly hit his stride.

Now, with both Pollard and Spears heading into their contract year, both could be battling for their future within the organization, and Spears hoping to find consistency could be a huge boost for the Titans offense.
