Titans signing of Wan'Dale Robinson named move that could haunt them

The Tennessee Titans needed to make some significant moves during the offseason to build around quarterback Cam Ward, and did just that.

Tennessee spent big when adding diminutive slot receiver Wan’Dale Robinson in free agency and followed that by selecting Carnell Tate fourth overall in the 2026 NFL Draft. But these weren’t the only moves in rebuilding the roster and building a solid foundation.

Eva Geitheim of Sports Illustrated took a look at all of the Titans’ moves and found one that could haunt them moving forward.

The Titans were in desperate need of receiver help, and thus turned to Wan’Dale Robinson in free agency, signing the 5’8″ receiver to a four-year, $70 million deal. While Robinson’s deal is far from what the best receivers are making, and there are only $38 million in guarantees in his contract, it’s still a steep price for a receiver who narrowly surpassed 1,000 yards for the first time last season and has an injury history. Robinson, of course, can be a net positive for the Titans, particularly if he proves to be the reliable playmaker Ward needs, but this is also a move that might not age well.

From the start, this move has been somewhat polarizing, and definitely has a boom-or-bust feel. There is no doubt from his college career that Ward understands how to use a slot receiver to his advantage, and with Brian Daboll calling the plays, if Robinson and Ward are on the same page, it could become a dynamic combination.

But for it to become successful, Tate, Calvin Ridley, Elic Ayomanor, and Chimere Dike need to develop into outside threats that can open the secondary for the new duo to work.
