Tinubu's N70,000 transport subsidy will be ineffective - Rufai Oseni
Arise Television’s Morning Show anchor, Rufai Oseni has criticised the Federal Government’s announced N70,000 transport subsidy for workers, saying the intervention would be insufficient to cover commuting costs for government employees living on the mainland and working on Lagos Island.
Oseni said the inadequacy of the proposed subsidy became apparent after a member of staff at his studio told him he spent about N7,000 daily on transportation.
According to him, the worker’s monthly transport expenses amount to more than twice Nigeria’s minimum wage.
In a post on Facebook on Wednesday, Oseni argued that the N70,000 support would only cover about half of the commuting expenses of some workers in Lagos.
“I got talking to a member of staff at the studio yesterday, and he confirmed, he spends about 7k on transport every day.
“In a month, he spends twice the minimum wage on transport.
“Even the government transport subsidy of 70k will be ineffective for a government worker in Lagos that lives on the mainland and works on the island.
“It would just pay half of the cost of commuting,” he wrote.
DAILY POST reports that the Federal Government on Tuesday announced a N70,000 monthly transportation allowance for civil servants following the rising cost of living in Nigeria.
