Tiger Woods makes first public appearance since rollover wreck

Tiger Woods has made his first public appearance since a rollover wreck ad DUI arrest in March, where he was taken into custody after colliding with a pickup truck’s trailer on Jupiter Island, Florida. Woods appeared Tuesday in Hartford, Conn., as part of the PGA Tour’s announcement of its new 2028 schedule format. 

Woods offered a brief statement to open the announcement, but did not take questions from the assembled media. 

In March, Woods was traveling at a high rate of speed on a narrow road on Jupiter Island, when he ran into the trailer of a pickup truck ahead of him. Woods’ vehicle rolled over on its side. Woods, who according to police at the scene “showed signs of impairment,” was not injured in the crash. 

Woods has not played competitive golf since the 2004 Open Championship. He suffered a ruptured Achilles in March 2025, and underwent surgery for lumbar disc replacement in October. While he had participated in some TGL indoor golf play during his recuperation, he went into seclusion following the wreck, reportedly seeking treatment at a facility in Switzerland, and had not made a public appearance prior to Tuesday.  

Woods is the chairman of the Future Competition Committee, a nine-member, six-player group tasked with modernizing and refining the PGA Tour’s approach to tournament scheduling. The Tour announced the results of the Future Competition Committee’s work on Tuesday morning, which includes substantial changes to the future PGA Tour schedule. 

“Over the past eight months, the Future Competition Committee has spent a lot of time on a very important and fundamental question: How do we build the strongest possible version of the PGA Tour?” Woods said. “This work was never about any one player or person. It was about bringing together different perspectives, having honest, hard conversations, and thinking boldly about what is best for the game that we all love.”

Woods has not offered any kind of timetable for his return to competitive golf. He has not played in any of the four majors in the past two years. Since 2020, he has played in only nine majors, withdrawing from two, missing the cut at five, and finishing in 47th and 60th place at the two Masters he did complete.
