Three reasons Colorado football's 2027 class is surging nationally

Colorado is building real momentum in its 2027 recruiting class, and the early signs point to a sustainable approach rather than the one that failed to deliver offensive help a year ago. Deion Sanders and his staff have the Buffaloes sitting third in the Big 12 in Rivals’ 2027 rankings, and three factors have driven the class.

The first key has been the way Colorado football has turned official visits into commitments. The Buffs hosted major recruiting weekends in mid-May and again on June 6, and several prospects left Boulder with a much stronger feeling about the program.

Li’Marcus Jones, Gabe Jenkins, Ba’Roc Willis and Samari Howard are among the recruits who visited and committed shortly thereafter. That is an encouraging sign for Colorado, because it suggests Boulder is becoming a place that closes the deal with its official visitors.

Colorado’s biggest edge so far has been its ability to land high-end prospects even without piling up the largest class in the conference. The Buffs are tied for fourth in total commitments in the Big 12, but they rank second in blue-chip commits, which gives the class some real upside.

CU already has four blue-chip commits in place, giving Sanders a strong foundation before the class reaches the final stretch. Quarterback Andre Adams has also helped accelerate that momentum, with the four-star signal caller taking on a recruiting role of his own.

The final piece is Colorado’s clear push to build around offense. After struggling to find the right fit through the portal in 2025, Sanders has taken a more targeted approach, focusing heavily on giving Adams help around him.

The Buffs are adding talent up front and stacking weapons for the future, which should help Brennan Marion once the class arrives on campus. Colorado still has work to do, but the early structure of this class looks much more complete than it did last year.
