Three men in court over N6.8m ‘spiritual soap’ fraud

Three men, Waheed Bojesomo, Olajide Olakanmi and Olayinka Oludayo, were arraigned before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, on Tuesday for allegedly swindling a spiritual seeker of N6.8 million.

Defendants, Bojesomo, 53, Olakanmi, 59, and Oludayo, 46, are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, fraud and stealing.

They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, ASP Sikiru Opaleye, told the court that the defendants conspired to commit the act of fraud.

Opaleye alleged that the defendants, between 2022 and October 2025, at Apatere village, Ibadan, with intent to defraud, obtained N6.8 million from one Muritala Abiodun under the pretence of preparing spiritual soap for him.

He alleged that the defendants knew their claim to be false, stole and fraudulently converted the money belonging to Abiodun to their own use.

Opaleye said the offences contravened Sections 390(9), 419 and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Olabisi Ogunkanmi, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N2.5 million each, with two sureties each in like sum.

Ogunkanmi ordered that one of the sureties must be a blood relative of each defendant.

She thereafter adjourned the matter until Oct. 22 for hearing. (NAN)
