Three former Vols start in Giants-Rockies series finale
Colorado (50-74) defeated San Francisco (51-73), 13-7, on Sunday at Oracle Park in San Francisco, California. The Rockies won the best-of-three series, 2-1.
Former Tennessee baseball pitcher Blade Tidwell started for the Giants in Game 3. He pitched 4.1 innings, recording one strikeout and 63 pitches (35 strikes) against 19 batters.
The right-handed pitcher allowed three hits (one home run), six runs (six earned) and five walks.
Former Vol Drew Gilbert started in center field and served as the Giants’ leadoff batter. He went 1-for-5 and hit a RBI single in the second inning.
A third former Vol started in the series finale. Jordan Beck started in left field for the Rockies and went 0-for-3, totaling three runs, two walks and two strikeouts.
Tidwell (13-5) played for the Vols from 2021-22, appearing in 31 games (27 starts). He recorded 141 strikeouts and a 3.53 ERA, while leading all Tennessee pitchers with 18 starts as a true freshman in 2021.
Gilbert played at Tennessee from 2020-22 and appeared in 141 games, including 134 starts, as a batter for Tennessee. He recorded a .314 batting average, 22 home runs, 140 RBIs and 116 runs with the Vols. Gilbert also appeared in 11 contests as a relief pitcher and had a 2-0 record.
Beck played for the Vols from 2020-22. He recorded 18 home runs, 61 RBIs, 70 runs, 75 hits, 15 doubles, three triples, 37 walks and six stolen bases in 66 games during the 2022 season at Tennessee.
