The Daily: Red Wings Open Road Trip in Seattle; McKenna Nets Game Winner

· · 3 min read

2026 no. 1 overall draft pick Gavin McKenna squared off with 2024 no. 1 overall draft pick Macklin Celebrini last night as the Toronto Maple Leafs upended the San Jose Sharks 3-1. McKenna scored the game winner for the Maple Leafs, helping the team snap a three game losing streak in the third period of their game against the Sharks.

San Jose has now lost two in a row, dropping them to 4-4-1 on the year after losing in the shootout to the in Detroit to Lucas Raymond and the Red Wings over the weekend.

The Red Wings begin the first leg of their four game road trip tonight with their second and final matchup of the season with the Seattle Kraken. After managing to rattle off their last two wins at home, Detroit will be looking to even the score with Seattle after losing to the Kraken 6-3 in their first matchup at Little Caesars Arena this year.

The Red Wings, still staring down the barrel of Dylan Larkin‘s looming trade request will be hoping the former captain will start to look more like his old self after having to shuffle their lines around over the last week. Larkin has lost his usual spot as top-line center following a less than productive week from him and his linemates.

However, the Red Wings will definitely need depth scoring facing off a Kraken group that managed four goals in less than ten minutes during their last matchup and that has scored 2+ goals in all but one game this year. Having Larkin get back on track would also help incentivize any prospective trade destinations to make a move sooner rather than later for the centerman.

Eddie Genborg helped a certain former Red Wings captain’s big day go off without a hitch.

Former Red Wings defenseman Robert Hagg has found himself suspended in Sweden.

The New York Rangers are giving former Red Wings forward Luke Glendening a PTO contract.

Glendening isn’t the only player from Detroit that New York has signed in the last week. Netminder James Reimer, who spent the 2023-24 season with the Red Wings, has joined the Rangers’ AHL farm club, the Hartford Wolfpack.
