The 20 states where gas prices rose the most in July

· · 3 min read
  • Oil and gas prices across the US have remained high amid the ongoing US-Israeli war with Iran.
  • Gas prices have dropped after spiking in May, but the national average is still over $4 per gallon.
  • Indiana has seen the biggest rise in the past month, increasing by 14%.

After the conflict started, prices rose sharply across the US. The national average peaked in May at roughly $4.56 per gallon, per AAA. Gas prices then fell before climbing again, and the national average gas price was $4.11 by the end of July.

AAA’s national average gas price rose by 6.73% in July, according to its Fuel Price Tracker. Only four states — Alaska, Oregon, Washington, and Hawaii — saw prices drop slightly in the past month. (Gas prices typically vary between states due to factors such as local taxes, proximity to supply, and operating costs.)

We looked at the gas prices reported by AAA on July 31 and compared them with prices reported a month ago. We then calculated the percentage increase (or decrease) for each state to determine where prices are rising the most.

In these 20 states, price increases are outpacing the national average.
