‘That’s why they’re trash’ – Stephen A. Smith ‘disgusted’ by what Dak Prescott has just said
The Dallas Cowboys’ form is no laughing matter to Jerry Jones, as they head into Week Nine with a dismal 3-5 record.
However, the reality of the NFC East has provided the Cowboys with a faint possibility of still being able to secure the top spot. Brian Schottenheimer’s team will need to find some better form to do so, though, having lost to teams like the Arizona Cardinals of late.
Asked about the Cowboys’ offensive identity, Prescott laughed and replied: “Sure, I mean, is it one we’re proud of? I don’t know.”
This comment has not sat well with Stephen A. Smith, who has used Prescott’s response as another opportunity to tear down the Cowboys following what has been a seriously underwhelming season so far.
Stephen A. Smith rips into Dak Prescott’s Dallas Cowboys comments
Jones expected a lot more from his team this year, having parted with a number of draft picks to improve the roster. Despite his best efforts, the Cowboys still look way off what it takes to really make a run for a spot in the Super Bowl.
“I just get very disgusted, and here’s the reason why. I can troll and have fun with Cowboy fans. We get all of that; that’s how I feel about the Cowboy fanbase. But it’s all love, it’s just fun, and I’ve got to have fun trolling them. On a serious note, I just want to say this about Dak Prescott. Here’s what really, really bothers me about him: he’s a great player. He can ball. He’s not a scrub. But the priority is always on saying the right things and coming across polished,” Smith said on First Take.
“They’re living the life in Dallas. That’s why they’re trash: because they’re so comfortable. They’re so comfortable that losing doesn’t hurt enough.”
In comparison, the Kansas City Chiefs players have not taken their recent defeats so lightly, with the likes of Patrick Mahomes keeping his message straight when speaking to the media. There is a distinct difference to the way Prescott addressed the media in this instance.
Cowboys fans surely do not want to see their $60m-a-year quarterback joking with the media over the identity of his offensive unit, which, for the record, a lot of money has gone into developing over recent years.
There is a lot of talent on offense, and a lot of well-paid talent at that, yet the Cowboys have still lost to teams like the Cardinals and a Tampa Bay Buccaneers team without Baker Mayfield. Perhaps the issue in Dallas is a mentality problem.
