Texas infielder Casey Borba reveals his plans for 2027 campaign

· · 2 min read

A key piece of the Longhorns offense will be back for the 2027 campaign. On Friday, Casey Borba announced that he will return for his senior year. For the Longhorns it was a reason to celebrate as the California native was one of the team’s most potent bats this past season.

During his junior campaign, Borba posted a .266 batting average in 61 games. He also set career-highs in home runs with 18, runs batted in with 57, and hits with 59. Due to his jump in productivity, the Orange Lutheran High alum was hard to take out of a Longhorns lineup that fell just a few wins short of a national title.

Since making his collegiate debut, Borba has improved every season. Through 146 games in the burnt orange he has posted a .268 batting average and driven in 121 runs. He has at times made an impact with his speed, recording eight stolen bases including a career-high five this past season. That has put him in a good spot heading into his senior year.

With Borba officially back in the mix, Texas should have one of the best offenses in the nation. Over the last few weeks, Texas has been busy improving its depth through the transfer portal with the additions of Trevor Goldenetz, Linkin Garcia, Sawyer Solitaria, and Ian Armstrong. If that group can meet expectations, then Longhorns fans will have plenty to celebrate next spring.

While the expectations will be higher than ever for Borba, he has shown that he can make adjustments and handle a bigger workload. That will be key when the Longhorns return to action as they are expected to lose two big bats in Aiden Robbins and Carson Tinney to the MLB Draft. If Borba can put together another key year then some of their production won’t be lost.
