Texas EDGE Colin Simmons adds multiple honors to his trophy case

Following another stellar performance, Longhorns star Colin Simmons is adding to his trophy case. On Tuesday, the Texas native won the Chuck Bednarik Award, Bronko Nagurski Trophy, and Walter Camp Award. It marked the first time in Simmons’s career that he earned recognition from all three.

In the Longhorns‘ win over Tennessee, the talented defensive end had 5.5 sacks and forced one fumble. He also had nine tackles as Texas recorded its second win of the season over a ranked team. With that performance, Simmons etched his name into the record books, becoming the first FBS player in the last 20 years to record five sacks in a single game against a ranked team.

Through three games this season, Simmons has been one of the Longhorns’ best players. He has 13 total tackles and a team-high 7.5 sacks. No other Longhorn has more than two, as Maraad Watson has the second most with two. Regardless of the opponent, Simmons has continued to frustrate offensive coordinators and make life difficult for quarterbacks. 

While Simmons made history in the sack department, he also joined elite company with Tuesday’s honors. He became the first Longhorn to be selected as Chuck Bednarik Player of the Week since Anthony Hill Jr. in 2025. Simmons also became the first player in program history to be named the Nagurski Trophy Player of the Week since former linebacker Jaylan Ford in 2022. That is not bad company to be in only three weeks into the 2026 campaign.

After the Longhorns’ bye week, Simmons will build on his success against Oklahoma on October 10th. While the Sooners are currently unranked, Texas will have its hands full as it tries to record another SEC win. If Simmons plays as he did against Tennessee, the Oklahoma offense will have a long afternoon.
