Texas A&M lands massive commitment from Lamar transfer LHP

· · 1 min read

Texas A&M’s 2026 season ended at the hands of USC in the College Station Regional, as second-year coach Michael Earley accomplished his goal of reaching the postseason, while the Aggies’ top three hitters, Caden Sorrell, Chris Hacopian, and Gavin Grahovac, are all expected to be selected in the first three rounds of the 2026 MLB Draft, which begins on Saturday.

Just days after the Aggies were eliminated in the regional round, Earley made the first significant move of his coaching career, dismissing second-year pitching coach Jason Kelley, who failed to develop A&M’s younger arms, while the starting rotation was average at best, outside of sophomore LHP Aiden Sims, who serves as the team’s ace amid his breakout season.

While it’s up in the air if Shane Sdao, Weston Moss, and elite closer Clayton Freshcorn will return next season, Earley and new pitching coach Barry Enright, combined with recruiting ace Nolan Cain, who returned after two seasons with the Texas Longhorns, have added nearly a dozen players from the transfer portal, now including Lamar transfer LHP Jarret Williams.

On Thursday, Williams officially became Texas A&M‘s seventh pitching commitment from the portal and is coming off an extremely impressive freshman season, producing 52 strikeouts and a 3.83 ERA in 56.1 innings. Working with Barry Enright, who was hired for his development background as an MLB pitching coach/coordinator, Williams will immediately compete for a middle-relief role with the Aggies.
