Texas A&M host elite 2028 5-star Edge in early October

We’re just two weeks away from Texas A&M’s 2026 season-opener vs. Missouri State on Saturday, Sept. 5, and while the season at hand is the primary focus, third-year coach Mike Elko and his staff will utilize all seven home games in Kyle Field to host a growing list of 2028 recruits just weeks after landing five-star quarterback Donald Tabron II, who, on paper, already looks like a shoo-in as the Aggies’ future starting QB.

Just months away from signing the No. 1-ranked 2027 recruiting class, Elko has proven his ability to navigate the chaotic NIL-driven landscape, which now includes the recently implemented 5-for-5 rule, which places more pressure on 2028 prospects to plan out their long-term goals after signing with a program, knowing that redshirt years are now a thing of the past.

After landing a nation-high six five-star prospects in the 2027 cycle, Elko isn’t shying away from pursuing nearly every elite recruit, including 2028 five-star Edge Asher Ghioto, who recorded 84 tackles, 35 tackles for loss, 23 sacks, two pass deflections, a forced fumble, and an interception during his 2025 sophomore season.

Already possessing NFL-level strength, Ghioto’s get-off and elite quickness, combined with his consistent physicality no matter the down and distance, have made him a prized prospect who, according to AggieYell insider Jaxson Callaway, will make his way to College Station for Texas A&M vs. Arkansas on Saturday, Oct. 3.

Joining several blue-chip prospects, including No. 1-ranked five-star safety Casey Barner, no one will be surprised if the Aggies quickly become the favorites to land both players, even though Miami is the current favorite for Ghiotto at this stage of his recruitment.
