Terrorists defy govt curfew to attack Plateau communities — NBA alleges

The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, in Plateau State has alleged that terrorists attacked communities in the state despite government-imposed curfews.

The four NBA branches in Jos, Pankshin, Bukuru and Shendam raised the concern on Monday at a joint press conference at the NUJ Secretariat in Jos.

In a statement read by the Chairman of the NBA Jos Branch, Morgan Dung, the association said recent attacks in Mangu, Barkin Ladi, Riyom and Bokkos Local Government Areas had resulted in deaths and displacement, accusing the government of failing to adequately protect residents.

The NBA said it was particularly concerned that terrorists allegedly attacked communities during curfew hours when residents were complying with government directives.

It said some community vigilantes in Kikyo village, Mangu LGA, were killed at their duty post during the curfew.

The association also cited reported attacks in Cantoma and Bin-Per villages in Mangu and Kasa village in Marit District of Barkin Ladi LGA.

The NBA warned that continued attacks despite security measures could undermine public confidence and contribute to a breakdown of law and order.

It called for stronger security operations in affected communities, improved border surveillance and better coordination among security agencies.

The association also urged authorities to investigate delayed responses to attacks and strengthen intelligence gathering to prevent further violence.

The NBA further called for time-bound trials of terrorism cases and prosecution of those found responsible for attacks on communities in the state.
