Task force probes former Kano LG chair over alleged illegal supply of Pentazocine

The Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking has received another complaint accusing former Rogo Local Government chairman, Yahuza Musa, of allegedly giving Pentazocine injections to a 63-year-old woman without her consent.

This was disclosed by Dr Ibrahim Garba Muhd, the task force Secretary, in a statement on Monday.

The task force, led by Muhuyi Magaji, said Musa had also been accused by a 25-year-old man of supplying him with the controlled drug for more than two years.

Musa has been arrested and arraigned, while the case is currently before a competent court.

The daughter of the 63-year-old woman told the task force that Musa allegedly injected her mother with Pentazocine without her knowledge or informed consent and continued supplying the drug, which allegedly led to addiction.

“The complainant reports that her mother repeatedly received injections from Mr Musa and has suffered significant harm,” the task force said.

The investigation into Musa began after the 25-year-old man, who suffered severe damage to his hands from prolonged Pentazocine use, reported the matter at the Kiru Reformatory Centre.

According to the task force, the man’s drug use started after he took a legitimate prescription from Dala Orthopedic to an unregistered clinic operated by Musa. The clinic’s licence had reportedly been revoked.

The victim later continued buying and injecting Pentazocine supplied by Musa. He told investigators that he spent about N6 million on the injections in the first six months of 2026 alone.

The task force said Musa allegedly continued supplying the drug despite the victim’s pleas for help.

After investigating and confirming parts of the man’s account, operatives carried out an undercover transaction that resulted in Musa’s arrest. The complaint involving the 63-year-old woman was later forwarded to the task force and is being investigated alongside the ongoing court case.

Task force Chairman Muhuyi Magaji described the allegations as a pathetic and inhuman attitude.

He said: “Irrespective of your political, religious or cultural affiliation, and irrespective of your status in society, if you are involved in destroying our youth and sabotaging the economy of Kano, we will hunt you, arrest you and prosecute you without fear or favour.”

Magaji said the action was in line with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s “Kano First” agenda and urged residents to continue providing useful information to the authorities.

The task force said it would maintain zero tolerance for illegal drug distribution, especially by unlicensed clinics and people who abuse positions of trust.

It also said it would continue working with rehabilitation and reformatory centres to support victims, while using undercover operations, surveillance and prosecution to tackle illegal drug networks.

The agency urged residents with information about the illegal sale or distribution of controlled drugs to report through official channels, saying such information could save lives.
