Talks held: Tottenham ready to let midfielder leave the club after five years

Tottenham could be heading for another significant midfield departure, with Pape Matar Sarr now in talks over a potential move to Turkish champions Galatasaray.

The 23-year-old Senegal international has reportedly been informed that he can leave Spurs this summer as Roberto De Zerbi continues reshaping his squad.

Competition for places has increased considerably in North London, and Sarr’s absence from Tottenham’s Premier League opener against Brentford has only added to speculation that his time at the club could be nearing an end.

Tottenham and Galatasaray in talks over Sarr

According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Tottenham and Galatasaray are in discussions over a transfer for Sarr, with Spurs prepared to sanction his departure five years after initially signing him from Metz.

Galatasaray have already tested Tottenham’s resolve. Tavolieri previously reported that the Turkish club submitted an €18m opening offer, which Spurs rejected while demanding around €25m.

Sarr was then left out of Tottenham’s squad for their defeat against Brentford over the weekend, although De Zerbi said before the game that the midfielder had been dealing with discomfort.

Leaving Spurs would be the right move for Sarr

Sarr’s potential departure feels more like a consequence of Tottenham’s summer rebuild than a reflection of his ability.

He has shown plenty of energy, athleticism and potential during his time in North London, but Spurs now have serious competition across midfield.

Staying without a clear pathway to regular football could stall his development at an important stage of his career.

Galatasaray would offer something very different. Regular starts, Champions League ambitions and the chance to become an important part of the midfield could make Istanbul an attractive destination.

Spurs, meanwhile, should avoid selling too cheaply. Sarr is only 23, has extensive Premier League experience and remains under a long-term contract.
