Talks held: Martinelli’s Arsenal exit looks possible after Euro giants open discussions

Gabriel Martinelli’s Arsenal future has become increasingly uncertain, with AS Roma joining the growing list of clubs exploring a summer move for the Brazilian winger.

Martinelli remains involved with Mikel Arteta’s squad, but Arsenal’s attacking rebuild has created genuine questions over his long-term position.

The Gunners have already added Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge, while Martinelli is entering the final year of his current contract, although Arsenal retain an option to extend it for another season.

Galatasaray have also shown interest, meaning Arsenal could face several approaches before the transfer deadline.

Roma have opened talks with Martinelli’s representatives

According to the Mirror, Roma have held initial discussions with Martinelli’s representatives while exploring whether a deal for the 25-year-old is achievable.

However, an Arsenal exit is far from guaranteed. The Gunners are reportedly reluctant to sanction Martinelli’s departure unless they first secure another high-level winger, while Roma could also face difficulties matching his current salary.

Interest elsewhere is growing too. talkSPORT reports that Galatasaray have made an enquiry after turning their attention away from AC Milan star Rafael Leão.

Arsenal’s pursuit of another winger, with Bradley Barcola among the prominent names linked, could ultimately determine whether Martinelli becomes available.

Arsenal should only sell Martinelli for a serious offer

There is a reasonable argument for Arsenal listening to proposals.

Martinelli scored just one Premier League goal last season, and increased competition means he may no longer be guaranteed the prominent role he once enjoyed.

Yet his overall Arsenal record remains strong, with 62 goals in 278 appearances.

Selling now could also allow Arsenal to maximise his value rather than letting his contractual situation become more complicated next summer. But replacing him is the key issue.

Tzolis offers another option, although allowing both Martinelli and Leandro Trossard to leave in the same window would represent a major reshaping of Arsenal’s left flank.

Roma could offer Martinelli regular football and a fresh challenge in Serie A, but Arsenal have no reason to accept a discounted fee.

Unless the Italian club produce a substantial proposal and Arteta has a superior replacement ready, keeping Martinelli remains the safer choice.
