Rodina Moscow forward, German Onugkha has claimed that Super Eagles players lacked the motivation to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup because they were already wealthy. He said the players failed to secure Nigeria's qualification for the tournament because they had little incentive to participate, given their financial status. Born in Moscow to a Russian mother and a Nigerian father, Onugkha has pledged his international future to Nigeria. He declined a call-up to the Russian national team for friendly matches against Thailand and Vietnam in September 2024.
