Bakatsine said the attackers also set ablaze homes, a shop, three motorcycles and a vehicle during the raid.

He added that more destruction was recorded in the nearby Karazau community.

“Yesterday, bandits launched another deadly attack on communities in Gusau LGA of Zamfara State. Two residents were killed, while five security personnel lost their lives defending residents from the attackers. Homes, a shop, three motorcycles and a vehicle were set ablaze in Marake and Kaura, with further destruction reported in Karazau,” Bakatsine wrote.

According to Bakatsine, despite the attack, security forces, with support from local volunteers, were able to stop the gunmen from taking over the affected communities.

“As families mourn yet another tragedy, residents are calling for urgent action to end the relentless cycle of bloodshed. How many more innocent lives must be lost before lasting security becomes a reality in Zamfara?,” Bakatsine asked.
