Suspected armed robbers nabbed with guns, live ammunition in Lagos
Three suspected armed robbers have been arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command in the Alakuko area of the state, with three locally made pistols and eight rounds of live ammunition recovered from them.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebesi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday.
According to the statement, the suspects, identified as Faruk Rasheed, 20, Olamilekan Ademola, 28, and Abidemi Oluwawemo, 21, were arrested following credible intelligence linking them to alleged criminal activities in the area.
Police revealed that preliminary investigations showed that the suspects allegedly specialised in snatching vehicles and robbing unsuspecting members of the public of their valuables.
“The search led to the recovery of two locally made pistols with five cartridges and a locally made revolver containing three rounds of 9mm live ammunition,” police said.
The police added that the recovery brought the total number of ammunition seized from the suspects to eight rounds.
“The suspects remain in police custody as investigation continues, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the suspected robbery syndicate,” the police said.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the command’s determination to dismantle criminal networks operating across the state.
“We will continue to deploy intelligence-led policing and other operational strategies to protect lives and property and ensure the safety of residents,” the police commissioner said.
He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities and emergencies through the Lagos State Police Command’s emergency lines.
