Super Eagles Goalkeeper Nwabali Returns To Chippa United Five Months After Exit

Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has returned to Chippa United five months after he left the South African club following a mutual agreement.

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) team announced Nwabali’s return ahead of the 2026/2027 season in a post on its official X handle on Sunday.

“Chippa United Football Club is delighted to welcome Stanley Nwabali back to the Chilli Boys,” the team wrote. “After taking time away, Stanley Nwabali returns to the Eastern Cape, and we are pleased to welcome him back to the club.”

Nwabali, 30, returns to the team after months of absence from competitive action. The Super Eagles’ shot-stopper left the South African club in February 2026, in what both parties described as a mutual agreement.

“Chippa United Football Club confirms that Stanley Nwabali has formally submitted a request to depart the club. After careful consideration, the club has agreed to grant his release,” the Premier Soccer League team wrote at the time, paying tribute to the Nigerian for his service, dedication, and contribution to the team.

“We would like to sincerely thank Stanley Nwabali for the years of service, commitment, and professionalism he has shown during his time at Chippa United Football Club. His contribution to the club will always be appreciated,” the Port Elizabeth-based side said about the former Enyimba goalkeeper.

The Nigerian joined the Chilli Boys in 2022 from Katsina United and gained prominence among Nigerian fans at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) following his impressive outing with the Super Eagles, where he helped the country reach the final of the competition.

However, his departure from the South African outfit (without joining another club) affected his role with the 2013 AFCON winners. He was left out of the team for several matches.
