Sunderland given hope of completing signing for just £34m despite £51m release clause

Sunderland have reportedly been given hope of sealing the transfer of Sporting Lisbon wide-man Geny Catamo for around £34m.

The 25-year-old, who can play as a right winger or right-back, has shone during his time in the Portuguese top flight, and it looks like he’ll make a fine addition to Regis Le Bris’ squad.

Sunderland have been in the mix for this signing in recent times, and they’ve now seemingly been given a boost as he might not be as expensive as initially expected.

According to TEAMtalk, the Black Cats may be able to sign Catamo for around £34m instead of the £51m release clause he has in his Sporting contract.

Catamo won’t come cheap, but if Sunderland can get him for more like £34m then that would surely have to go down as smart business by the club.

It’s also still a pretty ambitious deal for a side who only made their long-awaited return to the Premier League last season.
