Studs and duds from New York Giants' Week 2 loss to Los Angeles Rams

· · 2 min read

The New York Giants came into their Monday night game against the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium looking to build on the momentum from last Sunday night’s home win over Dallas.

Those notions were dashed early on when quarterback Jaxson Dart limped off the field in the first quarter with an apparent knee injury. Spoiler alert: It was all downhill from there.

Here’s a look at some studs and duds from Monday’s 28-6 loss against the Rams.

Stout displayed his Pro Bowl form in this game, and the Giants needed him to badly. He averaged 52.5 yards per attempt on six punts with a long of 78. He had one touchback, and three landed inside the 20. The Rams averaged just eight yards per return over four runbacks.

Nabers left the game with a shoulder issue in the first half but returned. He did little before or after the injury, catching just one of his four targets for one yard. Beckham had a very quiet night, drawing no targets.

Holland led the Giants with eight tackles (five solo) and added an interception, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

The Giants didn’t lay a glove on Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford until the second half, when linebacker Abdul Carter fought off a double-team and a flagrant hold to record the Giants’ first sack of the season.

Injuries left this group shorthanded against the great Davante Adams. No Paulson Adebo and no Deonte Banks put the pressure on Greg Newsome and rookie Colton Hood. Neither could handle Adams, who caught eight of his ten targets for 195 yards and two touchdowns.

The Rams, behind returning legend Aaron Donald, dominated the Giants’ offensive line all night. Dart got scissored by two Rams pass rushers, bending his left knee awkwardly backward. They allowed two sacks and eight QB hits and struggled against the Rams’ pressure packages. On the ground, the Giants could manage just 2.5 yards per attempt.
