Stop by Kelleher Field in Marlborough to watch USA World Cup match

MARLBOROUGH The MetroWest Boston Visitors Bureau, a Framingham-based group that promotes travel and tourism across nearly 20 communities, and City of Marlborough officials are gearing up for tonight’s FIFA World Cup soccer match between the United States and Paraguay.

The match, the first for each team in Group D play, takes place at 9 p.m. EST at Los Angeles Stadium in Inglewood, Calif.

Kelleher Field in Marlborough is one of two so-called “Fan Zones” hosted by the Visitors Bureau for local World Cup fans. These are public spaces to watch matches for people who don’t have tickets. Held in public places, they broadcast the match on giant screens to offer an immersive experience to watch the game, according to FIFA.

As of Wednesday, Visitors Bureau officials reported that 1,200 people had registered to watch the USA-Paraguay match in Marlborough.

In addition to the large TV screens, the event also includes food trucks, a beer garden, vendors, entertainment and family-friendly activities.

On Saturday, the Marlborough Fan Zone will host Group C matches between Brazil and Morocco (6 p.m. EST) and Scotland and Haiti (9 p.m.). As of Wednesday, a total of 2,200 had registered to watch those matches in Marlborough, according to the Visitors Bureau.
