The Washington Commanders’ comeback efforts against the San Francisco 49ers on Monday night fell just short.

The Commanders trailed 20-3 at halftime before cutting the deficit to one score in the fourth quarter. They had the chance to tie/take the lead on their final possession before quarterback Jayden Daniels was sacked on fourth down.

With the loss, the Commanders are now 1-4-1, and their season is already on the brink. Stephen A. Smith watched the game and thinks it’s “over” for head coach Dan Quinn.

“It’s over for Dan Quinn. This is it,” Smith said on “First Take.” “When it happened last week, when Magic Johnson went out and threw that tweet, I said what it is. I’ve known Magic Johnson for over 25 years. I know exactly what the hell he’s doing. What he’s saying is, ‘I’m connected to ownership. We ain’t having this.’ Last night was just the latest example.”

Dan Quinn’s Washington tenure

Quinn is in his third full season as the Commanders head coach and has an 18-21-1 overall record. He led them to the NFC Championship Game in 2024 before winning only five games last year.

If this season continues to go down the drain, then the Commanders may have no choice but to part ways with him.

The Commanders will play the Philadelphia Eagles in their next game on Nov. 1.
