Stephen A. Smith condemns ‘worst superstar in American sports history’ Kawhi Leonard

With Kawhi Leonard facing just a $700K fine following the NBA’s salary cap circumvention investigation, Stephen A. Smith has gone all in on calling him out.

The NBA has made an example of the Los Angeles Clippers at the end of their investigation into the team circumventing the league’s salary cap to pay Kawhi Leonard.

Losing five first-round picks is no joke, and the franchise’s top brass have all picked up suspensions too. Kawhi Leonard, though, will only be receiving a fine of $700,000.

This has raised some eyebrows within the NBA world, but it’s not entirely surprising either. While some fans may be okay with it, though, Stephen A. Smith is not.

Leonard was being represented by his uncle, Dennis Robertson until 2026. Having fired him earlier in the year, though, the ban Robertson received doesn’t exactly impact Kawhi either.

Stephen A. has been a vocal critic of the two-time NBA champion for years. And he went on quite the rant calling Leonard out following this latest development.

“He is the absolute worst superstar in the history of American sports,” Smith said on his show. “Kawhi Leonard got off easy. He owes tens of millions of dollars for the amount of time he’s taken off work.

“Kawhi Leonard should give masterclasses on how to get paid for not working. And this got his fingerprints all over it. And I know his uncle, Dennis Robertson, has been banned. It should be for life.

“Because this man, he doesn’t mind cutting corners and circumventing whatever rules and regulations. Clearly, not just to pad Kawhi Leonard’s pockets, but also his own.

“And you can fire him all you want to… You had him all of these years. While you’ve been collecting all of these benefits, having a pretty good idea that there was some illegal activity going on. And now look what has happened.”

It’s evident that the punishment for the Clippers has been a lot more severe than the punishment for Leonard. Smith is unlikely to be the only commentator that calls this out in the coming days.
