Steph Curry Builds Golf Access With L.A.B. Collab
A New Kind of Partnership
Golf equipment deals often feel like marketing stunts, but this latest move changes the game. L.A.B. Golf has teamed up with Golden State Warriors superstar Steph Curry to launch a limited-edition collection that actually funds a mission. More than mere putter sales, the Underrated Golf Tour x L.A.B. Golf Limited Edition Collection serves a broader purpose.
It directly supports Curry’s effort to make competitive golf accessible for young players from underrepresented communities. MyGolfSpy reported on the launch, noting that while L.A.B. has done quirky collabs before, this one stands out for its genuine impact. The partnership moves beyond simple branding to provide tangible resources for the next generation.
Putting Power Behind the Mission
Curry launched the Underrated Golf Tour (UGT) back in 2022 with a clear goal. He wanted to make the life lessons of the game available to student-athletes who usually get left out. The tour offers leadership development and mentorship, plus exposure to college coaches. There are no costs for the athletes who participate. This financial barrier removal is huge for the sport. L.A.B. signed on as the “Official Putter” of the UGT earlier this year to back that up.
Custom-built putters and on-site fittings are offered to every single participant across the five national competitions held in the U.S., while the top four European players, comprising two boys and two girls, receive putters sent directly to them. The collection features two specific limited-edition models, the VZN.1i and the OZ.1i, which are tricked out to match the tour’s spirit. According to MyGolfSpy, the execution here is “kinda badass and worthy of a little examination.”
Curry himself summed up the vision perfectly when he said the mission is about “creating access and opening doors for young athletes who might not have seen themselves in this space before.” That quote cuts right to the heart of why this deal matters more than a standard endorsement.
Why This Shifts the Industry
This collaboration signals a major shift in how equipment companies approach social impact. Too many brands talk about diversity without putting money where their mouth is. L.A.B. is different. They are giving away high-end, custom-fitted technology to kids who would never otherwise touch it.
That changes the trajectory of a junior golfer’s life. When a young player gets a putter built specifically for their stroke, it builds confidence. It tells them they belong on the course. The tour targets kids ages 12 through 18, a critical window for development. By removing the cost barrier and providing elite gear, the UGT and L.A.B. are fixing a broken pipeline.
This isn’t just charity; it’s smart business for the sport. If more companies followed this model, the player base would grow faster and look much different. The focus on underserved communities ensures the game reflects the world, not just a narrow slice of it.
