Steelers veterans call out NFL teams over FIFA World Cup artificial turf controversy

· · 1 min read

Two Pittsburgh Steelers veterans have spoken out against artificial turf after a FIFA World Cup mandate proved that NFL teams can accommodate grass fields.

There were 11 NFL stadiums that installed grass fields at FIFA’s request, and seven are set to revert to artificial turf following the World Cup final But that clearly isn’t sitting well with Patrick Queen, who called for a permanent switch to grass and was supported by Cameron Heyward on social media.

The Steelers‘ Acrisure Stadium was also the subject of major field-surface controversy, as the battered playing area resulted in a few players getting hurt last season.

Art Rooney II listened to his Steelers players and fan base, however, as a new grass surface was installed this offseason. Hopefully, the seven NFL franchises using turf can take a page out of his playbook and listen to the player outcry.
