Steelers roster spotlight: Will Cam Heyward continue to defy father time?
The second-oldest player on the Pittsburgh Steelers is veteran defensive tackle Cameron Heyward, but he has completely defied the aging process over the past several seasons. It feels like we ask this question every offseason: How much longer can Heyward continue to defy Father Time?

Over the past 15 seasons, Heyward has appeared in 228 games and made 193 starts. He’s recorded 92 career sacks, 208 quarterback hits, 796 combined tackles, and 142 tackles for loss.
A seven-time Pro Bowler, a four-time First-Team All-Pro, a two-time Second-Team All-Pro, and the 2023 Walter Payton Man of the Year, Heyward has shown little sign of slowing down in recent years.
Heyward signed a one-year extension with the Steelers in March 2026, which will keep him under contract with Pittsburgh through the 2027 season.
While some reports suggest Heyward could see a slightly reduced snap count in 2026, don’t expect the veteran defensive tackle to take a step back. Heyward is playing alongside one of the most loaded defensive rosters he’s ever had in his career and a competent DC in Patrick Graham.
The Steelers have invested heavily in their defensive line in recent years with Keeanu Benton, Derrick Harmon, and Yahya Black. But Heyward remains the backbone of this talented group heading into 2026.
