Steelers receive Navy SEAL-sized surprise from Mike McCarthy
Mike McCarthy brought a different kind of toughness to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and his latest move may be the clearest example of that statement yet.
On a recent episode of The Christian Kuntz Podcast, it was revealed that McCarthy brought in a team of Navy SEALs to speak with the Steelers, motivating the players and coaches for this upcoming season.
“Coach McCarthy brought this team in of Navy SEALs, bada– dudes,” Kuntz said via his podcast. “Like, the baddest of the baddest dudes. SEAL team, six commanders. They basically talked to us about how to perform these high-pressure jobs and high-pressure situations and communication, how important that is. Basically, trust and working together as a team. How to bring out the best in each other to make the team better. They get up and talk about situations that they were put in and why communication and stuff like that, camaraderie and trust, and that stuff is important in your brother. And that was a cool little wrinkle this year that got thrown in.”
There were plenty of questions surrounding McCarthy’s style and how he’d fit in with the Steelers’ way. It’s clear that this move is resonating with the players in the best way possible.
Still, as awesome as Navy SEALs are, fans are looking for one thing Mike Tomlin failed to bring the team in a decade: a playoff win. Hopefully, McCarthy’s coaching staff can finally bring a postseason win back to the Steel City for what should be Aaron Rodgers’ final season in the NFL.
