The Pittsburgh Steelers made some big changes this offseason, including pivoting from a defensive-minded head coach in Mike Tomlin to an offensive-minded one in Mike McCarthy.

McCarthy, who previously coached Aaron Rodgers with the Green Bay Packers, also led Dak Prescott and some high-octane offenses with the Dallas Cowboys.

After adding Michael Pittman Jr. and Rico Dowdle as well and beefing up their offensive line, the Steelers are expected to be significantly better on offense this year after ranking 15th in scoring and 25th in yardage last season.

Former NFL offensive lineman Max Starks, who won two Super Bowls with Pittsburgh during his playing days, has high hopes for the team’s rejuvenated offense under McCarthy.

“I think it’s going to be a very physical, attacking run game,” Starks told Jim Rome on Friday. “I expect to see a lot more dynamic, and a lot more explosive and physical offense.”

Of course, much of that hinges on Aaron Rodgers performing at a high level at age 42. If he declines or gets hurt, the Steelers’ offense could quickly fall apart with Will Howard or Drew Allar under center.

If Rodgers stays healthy and productive, however, Pittsburgh’s offense should take a step forward under McCarthy and new offensive coordinator Brian Angelichio.
