Steam Officially Makes 5 New Games 100% Free Forever (November 4)
Of all the platforms available to gamers, Steam is easily the one most dense with free games. So much so that it’s not always easy to work out which freebies are worth your time. In a year with massive games like 007: First Light, Resident Evil Requiem, Ocarina of Time, and GTA 6, it can be hard to turn your attention to the smaller titles. But if you’re gaming on a budget, those small freebies can be a blessing.
As of November 4, Steam has dropped a fresh batch of free games for you to download and keep forever. Granted, new free games are added to Steam every single day, but we’re here to try and separate the wheat from the chaff and let you know which are actually worth a shot.
First up is WendyQuest: Legend of the Four Corner Stones, a new free-to-play pixel-art RPG officially created and backed by the fast-food chain Wendy’s. Given we’ve had games about Pepsi and Burger King in the past, you’d be forgiven for being a little concerned about the quality of this one, but it looks like a genuinely fun love-letter to the SNES era. Just so long as you can tolerate the Wendy’s branding throughout, although even that isn’t as bad as it could have been.
Next up is Agent of Strange: Arrival, which is a free prologue to the upcoming RPG Agent of Strange. Don’t worry though, this is more substantial than a demo, and the prologue very much feels like a game in its own right. “The prologue to Agent of Strange — a dark role-playing thriller where every mission is a labyrinth of choices and possibilities,” reads the synopsis. “Start your path as a Conspirator in a desperate struggle against the secret occult regime.”
Then we have Corner Pocket: World Billiards, which is a generous collection of eight games in one package. “Play eight billiards games online for free, including snooker and Taiwan 235,” reads the official description. “Enter Corner Pocket: World Billiards, aim freely, hold to build power and feel every shot. Challenge opponents or invite friends in seven distinct halls, using potting and cue-ball positioning to win.”
Last but by no means least is Magic Fruit World, which might be more appealing to any younger gamers out there. This one has kind of a New Super Mario Bros. vibe, offering up colorful 2.5D platforming across a series of vibrant stages. Apparently, “Magic Fruit World is an intense platforming adventure combining deep exploration and tactical combat. Master the power of Magic Fruits to face relentless enemies, uncover secrets in expansive worlds, and perfect your skills in levels built for high replayability.”
So, there you have it. No less than 11 (or four depending on your point of view) free Steam games to sink your teeth into over the next few weeks. If you can’t afford GTA 6 or The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, just get busy with these freebies instead and try to ignore everyone else.
