Steam Officially Drops 5 More Free Games You Can Keep Forever (November 7)

· · 3 min read

Steam is the best friend to any gamer on a budget. The platform doesn’t offer just games that are cheap, it also has a slew of totally free titles for anyone curious to try. Price doesn’t always equate to quality when it comes to PC gaming, and there’s no harm in trying a free game or two to pass the time. There are always some surprises in store, and the cost couldn’t be lower.

Some of the free games on Steam this month are more than worth playing, especially considering their zero-dollar price point. Some horror titles are still slipping through the cracks after October, but there’s plenty else available for free on the platform this month. Five of the games made free this week in particular might be more gamers’ cup of tea than others, and the only loss in playing them is a little time and hard drive space.

A Variety of Free Games For Budget Gamers

This week, free-to-play gamers can look forward to an mech-based arena shooter, a comedy RPG, an incremental idle game, and more to entertain themselves on a budget.

The first free game on offer is Voltgate, a fast-paced arena shooter with a twist: players can customize their own robots and take to the arena. Voltgate has PvP for two to four players, as well as a four-player co-op wave survival mode called Headliner. This arena shooter should be a quick pick-up for those who want something quick, chaotic, and free to play with their friend group.

Townlet is the next notable free entry this week. A taskbar town idler, Townlet changes and grows based on the types of files you delete and send to your Recycle Bin. This is an interesting gimmick, but not as destructive of one as it seems. Players can simply delete something and watch their villagers grab it and take it away, then restore the file. Townlet is a very low-interaction entry to the idler genre.

Den: A Short Horror Story released in the tail-end of October but deserves a mention. Short and not-so-sweet, Den offers a short camping horror story that one can finish in a single sitting. Those still riding the horror wave will want to try this surprisingly immersive free game.

The fourth free game featured this week is WendyQuest: Legend of the Four Corner Stones, which is tie-in game for the Wendy’s fast food restaurants. WendyQuest is a surprisingly long and well-made game, with some players taking up to 12 hours to complete this fast food JRPG packed with personality. It’s more than a little goofy, which is just what Wendy would want for her own video game.

Last but certainly not least this week is Massive Army Battle. Akin to Totally Accurate Battle Simulator but with hald-drawn sprites, Massive Army Battle offers 12 levels to play as well as one-on-one PvP. The base game is available for free and has plenty of gameplay on its own, and there is a paid Sandbox DLC to add Sandbox mode, six new heroes, and more. The base game is fun enough on its own, and costs absolutely nothing to play.

These five free Steam games may not be able to hold a candle to this season’s big releases, but any one of them might be just the thing for a gamer on a budget to pass the time this month.
