The San Antonio Spurs are coming off an NBA Finals appearance in which they lost in five games, despite holding leads down the stretch in several contests. San Antonio is a young team that appears poised to contend for years to come.

The Spurs have made it a priority to add veteran leadership this offseason. Their summer began with the signing of Tobias Harris to a two-year deal.

“Free agent forward Tobias Harris has agreed to a two-year, $31 million deal with the San Antonio Spurs, sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania on Wednesday. Harris, 33, is leaving the Detroit Pistons after helping lead a franchise turnaround over the past two seasons. Now the productive veteran known for shotmaking and floor spacing in the frontcourt joins a young Western Conference contender after the Spurs and agent Torrel Harris of Unique Sports Management worked through a deal,” ESPN wrote.

San Antonio could still add another veteran to its locker room to help mentor its young core. Bleacher Report’s Dan Favale believes the Spurs could sign NBA champion Bruce Brown.

“None of Brown’s other connective skills are a mirage. He keeps the ball moving; can reach the basket on or off the rock; knows how to cut and relocate in the half-court; keeps defenses guessing from short-roll territory; and is someone who can be moved up or down the positional spectrum if he’s coming off the bench,” Favale wrote.

Brown is one of the more dependable role players available in free agency and has drawn interest from several teams around the league.

“After helping the Denver Nuggets win an NBA championship, Bruce Brown is looking to cash in as a free agent this offseason. Per SNY’s IanBegley, Brown is expected to meet with the Los Angeles, Lakers, New York Knicks, Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks and Indiana Pacers,” Bleacher Report’s Adam Wells wrote.

Brown has built his career as a true role player, embracing whatever responsibilities his team needs from him. For the Spurs, that versatility could make him an ideal addition to a young roster.

Brown has earned $63 million throughout his NBA career, but his value to San Antonio would extend beyond his on-court production. The Spurs are focused on building around Victor Wembanyama, and adding a veteran like Brown could give the young superstar another experienced teammate who can mentor him and help him navigate the demands of winning at the highest level.
