Spalletti keen on bringing Martinez to Juventus

Luciano Spalletti has confirmed Juventus have been looking at a deal for Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez, while noting the club need to be smart in the transfer market.

Martinez, who helped Argentina reach the World Cup final this summer, has been linked with a move away from Villa in each of the last two summer transfer windows.

Last season, he looked set for a deadline-day move to Manchester United, even saying goodbye to Villa’s fans following a match, only for the deal to break down.

And this year, he has been linked with a transfer to Juventus despite Villa’s director of football operations, Damian Vidagany, insisting they have “no intention” of letting him go.

Despite that, Spalletti is still keen to bring the goalkeeper to the Allianz Stadium if Juventus can figure out a deal that suits everyone.

“We already have two goalkeepers at the moment; we want to add competitiveness, and we are looking for another one,” Spalletti said.

“We’ll see, there are many who will now go and find new slots.

“Dibu Martinez is one of them, who can probably change club, but we have to work carefully and prudently in the transfer market.

“We do not have huge scope to spend a lot of money.”

Martinez joined Villa in September 2020 and has gone on to make 256 appearances for them in all competitions.

He was also a key part of their Europa League triumph last season, playing the final – a 3-0 win over Freiburg – despite breaking his finger in the warm-up.

Martinez has also cemented himself as Argentina’s number one during his time at Villa, winning two Copa America titles in 2021 and 2024, as well as the 2022 World Cup.

In the 2026 World Cup showpiece, the 33-year-old made 11 saves, the most by any goalkeeper on record (since 1966) in a final at the tournament.
