Sounds like Purdue wants to join the Trail of Cowards when it comes to Notre Dame

Tis the season — or something like that. More and more, college football coaches are being asked by overzealous reporters about future football schedules during their press conferences, and Notre Dame has been a hot topic for a while now.

The most recent victim is Purdue head coach Barry Odom, who recently gave the classic line of, “doing what’s best for the program.”

We’ve seen this type of talk about playing Notre Dame before from Lincoln Riley at USC, and Curt Cignetti at Indiana. Riley was the main driver when it came to blowing up the Battle for the Jeweled Shillelagh, and Cignetti backs away from anything with a pulse.

Texas’s Steve Sarkisian started to talk about “doing what’s best” when it comes to dropping Notre Dame, but the win over Ohio State suddenly has him singing praises for the tough scheduling (which he’s absolutely full of crap about).

And so now we have Odom talking nonsense, and Irish fans really don’t care. This game doesn’t mean much to most of its fans and alumni, so… okay dude — point that yellow stripe down your back if it helps you remain employed.

And really that’s the thing… why are any of these schedules being dictated by coaches who are more than likely to be somewhere else in a few years? Why are AD’s so weak-willed and soft?

It’s college football, and all of these people are just being cowards. Gross.
