Sophie Cunningham seeks book deal amid growing WNBA backlash

Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham reportedly is shopping a tell-all book in the midst of her rising WNBA troubles.

Cunningham and the Fever are in a battle with the best WNBA teams as the playoffs loom. However, the conversation surrounding Cunningham, Caitlin Clark and her squad isn’t largely related to basketball.

Page Six reveals that Cunningham’s aiming to land a book deal while currently taking on sports media and her league. The Fever star continues to face scrutiny over recent comments made about transgender athletes.

Cunningham’s stance has divided many within basketball, as well as the political realm over recent weeks. The WNBA standout is now being associated with ring-wing politics and many pundits have put her towards the forefront of Donald Trump’s MAGA agenda.

Cunningham didn’t mince words when taking a clear stance regarding the potential of trans athletes competing in the WNBA. The 29-year-old is hopeful that she can “extend love” to the trans community, but doesn’t want players in her league.

“I got a lot of negative feedback about me hating trans. And I’m like, ‘I never once said that,'” Cunningham told ESPN in July. “I think that I am here to extend love. “But I also think with that love is truth, being honest.

“And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn’t have to go against biological men.”

Cunningham has declined taking a political side in the past, often considering herself a moderate. This comes despite many unfounded claims that she’s a diehard Republican and a supporter of Trump.

The Fever currently sit fourth in the WNBA standings through 32 games. The regular season continues through September and the postseason is slated to begin Sept. 27.
