Sonny Gray Speaks On Red Sox Struggles: 'We're Not Good'

· · 1 min read

The Boston Red Sox have had a tough June. They allowed division rival Toronto Blue Jays to complete the sweep at Fenway Park on Thursday afternoon, making the Red Sox losers of eight out of the last 10 games. Their record on the month fell to a bleak 4-10.

Offseason acquisition starting pitcher Sonny Gray has the best record among the pitching staff with eight wins to just one loss.

Gray earned the start on Thursday. He allowed three runs on six hits, but received no run support until after he was taken out in the seventh inning.

When asked to reflect on the Red Sox’s performance, Gray kept things very candid.

“We’re not good,” Gray said. “We’re just not a good team right now, and that’s just a fact.”

Veteran leader Trevor Story is also having trouble coming to grips with the team’s 29-43 record.

“It’s hard to believe that this is where we’re at. It’s hard to put into words that this is where we’re at,” Story said. “I wouldn’t believe it at all if you told me this at the beginning of the year. Obviously, a lot of things play into that.”
