Skip Bayless drops ‘just politics’ take on Donald Trump calling LeBron James a ‘disgrace’
NBA analyst Skip Bayless has spoken up about LeBron James in a rare instance where he defended the Philadelphia 76ers star.
LeBron James’ decision to practice his golf swing during the Philadelphia 76ers vs. the Cleveland Cavaliers matchup has stirred up fans on social media.
As a result, US President Donald Trump labelled James as a ‘disgrace’ for disrespecting the national anthem.
Now, NBA analyst Skip Bayless has shared his two cents on Trump’s vicious attack on James. Surprisingly, Bayless has spoken in favour of the King.
Skip Bayless downplays Donald Trump’s rough remark on LeBron James
Bayless is known for his ruthless takes about James, but more often than not, they’re limited to his performance on the court.
Skip made it clear that he still doesn’t like James, but even then, he couldn’t stand Trump calling the 41-year-old a ‘disgrace.’
“I don’t think LeBron is deeply sort of psychologically wanting to protest the anthem. I think LeBron is, you know, he is the ultimate diva, and he’s earned a lot of his divaness.
“But he wants during the anthem to do a look at me. Remember, I’m LeBron James, and I’m here with my new team, and I’m going to be doing my golf swing during the anthem because I want to differentiate myself from these teammates of mine,” Bayless said.
He added, “What has Trump’s MO been from the start? He says, if you don’t like me, I don’t like you. And LeBron’s made it clear from the start he doesn’t like President Trump.
“So President Trump is going to leap through every little cracked door that LeBron cracks for him. But to go total disgrace, I don’t think LeBron’s a total disgrace and bad guy. I don’t.”
Bayless further stated that Trump’s jab at James was nothing but politics and the 76ers star has been a phenomenal role model throughout his career.
“And I’m not a fan of LeBron’s as a basketball player per se, but off the court, to your point, he has been a very good role model. And this is just politics,” Skip concluded.
Being the face of the NBA, it’s always easy to call out James, but for a change, Bayless became the voice of reason amid the fierce backlash that the 76ers star is facing.
