Action report from the bookmakers
Thomas Gable, sportsbook director at The Borgata in Atlantic City: “The question is if Lamar Jackson will play or not. We opened Ravens -3, bounced to -2.5 and down to -1.5. We know Lamar had participated in practice, but we’ve heard reports from beat reporters that he’s limping off the field. If you feel like he’s going to play, lay the 1.5 with the Ravens.”
Joey Feazel, head NFL trader at Caesars Sportsbook: “Lot of movement on this, with Lamar leaning doubtful. We saw a flood of under money and Bengals. Opened Ravens -3.5, now -1.5, total of 51 down to 48.5. A lot of action on Cincinnati, and I’d anticipate that to continue.”
Gable: “Another one that has moved a decent amount. Mike Evans is not likely to play. We opened 49ers -4.5, down to -2.5 now. There’s definitely been some 49ers money, but you’re writing on both sides on this game. Market has moved towards the Falcons.”
Feazel: “Weird roller coaster for Falcons last few weeks. We opened this one -4.5, saw some sharper action on Atlanta, now down 49ers -3 (-120). On Sundays, we’ve been seeing a lot of public 49ers action due to that offense. Total-wise, a little bit more on the over, but nothing game-changing there. Opened 49.5, up to 50.”
Gable: “We’re still sitting at Lions -3. Very good two-way action on this game. Total has hung around where we opened 53, 53.5. Could be a track meet, we’ll see if the Lions made some adjustments on defense during the bye week. Pretty balanced action at 3.”
Feazel: “Taking mostly Lions action here. Not sure if the public has quite bought back in on the Packers here. A little more of the sharper action taking Packers +3.5. A little bit more on the over, moving from 52.5 to 53. One-way traffic on Lions from the public so far.”
Gable: “We’re now at Rams -3.5 on the road at Vegas. Rams just have a ton of injuries, the latest is a Puka Nakua injury, we’ll see what happens there. They haven’t looked good, as we know, and it’s been a decent amount of Raiders money.”
Feazel: “This will be an interesting one. I’m anticipating needing the Rams to win but not cover. Lot of Raiders action week in and week out here in Vegas, but a little more Los Angeles action than I’d expect. People not jumping off the Rams’ train. We’ve seen some over action in this one. Know for sure we’ll need the under in this game.”
Gable: “This has been Seahawks -2, -2.5. Currently sitting -2.5. Zach Charbonnet will be back for Seattle, so good news there. Pretty balanced action in this one, little bit more Chiefs money. Total has come down from 44 to 42.5. I think if it touches Seahawks -3 with us, we’ll probably get a lot of Kansas City buyback.
Feazel: “More action on the Seahawks, which is surprising to me. Some sharper action towards the under, which I think has to do with how the Chiefs have been playing with their ability to run the ball and offensive struggles for Seattle. Total 44.5 to 42.5. Seeing more Seattle and under action at this point. I’d anticipate some more Chiefs action, although we didn’t see it last week. Bettors not giving up on Seattle here, but I’d expect more balanced action as we approach kickoff.”
Sharp action
It’s always notable where respected bettors have landed on this week’s games. While these prices may not currently be available at all sportsbooks, knowing where sharps have wagered can also be instructive for in-game wagering.
Yahoo Sports conversed with several bookmakers across the country, and here is where some sharp action has been (and the numbers it came in at):
- Texans -9, -9.5 (vs. NY Giants)
-
Dolphins +5.5, +5 (at NY Jets)
-
Steelers -2.5, -3, Saints +3.5
-
Broncos -4 (at Cardinals)
-
Falcons +3.5 (vs. 49ers)
-
Lions -3 (vs. Packers)
-
Raiders +4.5 (vs. LA Rams)
Big bets
We’ll be keeping track of six-figure (and larger) Week 7 NFL bets from sportsbooks, as well as if they end up cashing.
